With its central location and outstanding infrastructure, Greater Omaha is home to key transportation companies and is a logistics center. In fact, Union Pacific and Werner Enterprises, two of Greater Omaha’s eight Fortune 1000 companies are in this sector.
- Greater Omaha’s strategic, central location is served by air, rail, truck and barge, and benefits from an active general purpose foreign trade zone. Nearly 18 percent of all U.S. manufacturers and 20 percent of the nation’s population is within a 500-mile radius of Omaha.
- More than 100 motor carriers in Greater Omaha can transport goods throughout the country, as well as strategic areas along the NAFTA corridor, in 2-3 days. In addition, there are 3 Class-I railroad companies in the area with extensive intermodal operations readily available.
- Eppley Airfield is five minutes from downtown, and serves as a regional passenger and cargo airport. The airport’s expanded air cargo apron has services for national and international air freight and parcel service. In recent years, Eppley has made an investment of more than $110 million in terminal, apron, cargo areas and runway expansions.
